Crisis is brewing in the Gombe State chapter of the APC as two groups have engaged themselves in battle of supremacy over the expulsion of former Governor Danjuma Goje from the party.
Senator Danjuma Goje
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, dated Wednesday, July 1, 2015, the state's chapter of the party expelled Senator Danjuma Goje from the party over what it called mismanagement of the state’s governorship campaigns, among other alleged anti-party activities.
Senator Goje, who is currently representing Gombe Central Senatorial District in the Senate, was a former governor of the state from 2003 to 2011. On Monday, the state party chairman, Doho, and 17 others were also suspended for alleged anti-party activities and Mr. Karu Isaiah has been appointed as acting chairman in his place.
As a result of these decisions, crisis is now brewing in the Gombe State chapter of the APC as two warring groups have engaged themselves in battle of supremacy over the expulsion of Goje from the party.
Speaking with correspondents last night from Gombe, the new acting chairman, Ishaya Karau dismissed Goje’s expulsion, saying that the state chapter lacks the power to expel the former governor as only the national headquarters can do that. He said the allegations against him does not exist and cannot be substantiated, hence his expulsion is null and void as it did not pass through the proper and laid down process.
“Since after that election, Doho and those other people have not been working for the party. You know we are in the tribunal challenging the election of the present governor, but if Doho is the chairman, is he not supposed to be a signatory to the petition,” Karau said.
