Pensioners in the country have demanded that a total of N128 billion required to clear all unpaid pensions, should be deducted from the recently released bailout fund by the federal government.

Just after the federal government released the $1.7bn bailout to states for the payment of the backlog of workers' salaries, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners,NUP, has announced that a total of N128 billion is required to clear all unpaid pensions.

The union has demanded the settlement of pension arrears from federal government’s $1.7billion bail out fund.

Making the demand on Monday, July 7, the union insited that the government make payment of pension arrears in all the states of the federation from the $1.7billion bailout fund from the federal government.

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) stated that N218billion would be needed to clear the pension arrears at once.
General secretary of NUP,  Actor Zal, in a statement released in Abuja, on Tuesday, July 7, said  that the federal government should, therefore, release the money to enable PTAD clear all the arrears.

Zal said: “The federal government should release the sum of N218 billion needed by Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to clear all those backlog of unpaid pension at once.”
