Kenya police says at least 36 quarry workers have been killed in Northern Kenya by suspected Islamic extremists from Somalia. Kenyan Police Chief, David Kimaiyo said the workers were killed in the early hours of Tuesday in Mandera County near the Somalian border.

Some other police sources whose identity was not revealed claims that the workers were ambushed at the quarry by gunmen, as non Muslims were singled out and killed.

Up until now, no group has claimed responsibility over the attack but the attack bears the hallmarks of Somalia's Islamic militant rebels, al-Shabab. A similar attack was recorded in Mandera County a week ago in which 28 non-Muslims were separated from other passengers and shot dead.
