Another round of multiple deaths was averted yesterday an Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), held by two boys aged 9 and 11 years was detonated.
There was reported confusion in Yola - the capital of Adamawa State yesterday when a loud explosion was heard with many of the residents fleeing for safety over fears that the explosion was a bomb attack. Eye witnesses revealed that multiple deaths which the incident might have caused was averted after an Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), held by two boys aged 9 and 11 years allegedly given to them by yet to be identified persons was detonated.
The incident which occurred at Kofare near the office of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) along Numan road in the state capital around 11:am caused pandemonium as residents and travellers fled for their lives although no life was lost in the incident.
Sani Manu who is one of the eyewitnesses, said the incident happened near a filling station which caused serious tension in the area as apprehension mounted. “One of the boys carrying the IEDs was hit on the leg and was badly injured,” Manu said.
Manu said the boys aged between 9 and 11 years old were apprehended by onlookers, following the incident even as part of the exploded device landed at the premises of Adamawa State command of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
There are indications that the boys were given the said device by yet to be identified persons and were asked to plant it in the community upon the receipt of a token N2,500 from the persons.
