So I'm Now a Prisoner - Ex-Governor Lamido Expresses Disbelief at Court Decision to Remand Him and Sons in Prison

Sule Lamido and his two sons were sent to jail after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused them of fraud.

The former Governor of  Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, on Thursday, July 9, 2015, expressed shock when a Federal High Court in Kano ordered that he remanded in prison till September 28.
 
Lamido was sent to jail along with his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused them of fraud.
 
“You mean I am now a prisoner?” the former Governor reportedly said when he was being ushered into a vehicle for the journey to the Kano Central Prison.
 
Lamido and his sons are accused of collecting a N1.35 billion kickback from a government contractor and paying it into their personal accounts.
 
Justice Evelyn Anyadike ordered that the suspects be imprisoned after the EFCC said its facilities could not accommodate them.
 
Justice Anyadike also refused to grant the former governor’s bail request despite pleas from his lawyer.
 
In a related news, former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, who was also accused of fraud by the EFCC, has been granted bail of N270m by an Abuja court.
