Some men who were working at a building site as constrution workers in a South African community, have narrowly escaped being bitten by a snake.

One of the construction workers, Tshidiso Motsepe stuck his hand into an underground water pipe yesterday to remove rubble and touched something soft.

According to Daily Sun SA, at first he thought someone had hidden their lunch in a plastic bag. But it was Tshidiso who almost became lunch when a huge python appeared.

The other construction workers rushed over to see the reptile.

Word spread out and hundreds of residents also gathered to see the big snake at the construction site which was near Sebokeng Hostel in the Vaal.

Tshidiso and his colleagues got the shock of their lives when the snake moved and showed its tail.

“Then we saw its head and we immediately knew this was a big snake. We called others to come and help, but the snake crawled back into the tunnel and stayed there,” he said.

Firefighters from Emfuleni Local Municipality arrived and sprayed water into the pipe.

As the snake appeared, onlookers ran screaming, but quickly turned and came back to see the mysterious snake.

Sebokeng cops loaded the snake into their vehicle and drove off.

Police spokesman Captain Teboho Lephoto said the snake was taken to Emerald Resort in Vanderbijlpark. “A snake expert from the resort helped us to catch the snake and take it to the resort, where it will be properly cared for.”
