Yoruba Royal Rivalry Finally Ended as Olubadan of Ibadanland Breaks 17-year-old Jinx with Alaafin of Oyo

A 17-year old royal rivalry between the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has ended on Tuesday.

A 17-year-jinx was on Tuesday, broken by Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, by visiting Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, which is the first official visit of an Olubadan to the palace of the Alaafin since 1999.
 
Oba Adetunji, who was warmly received by Oba Adeyemi,  arrived the palace at about 10.35am, and was accompanied by members of the Olubadan-in-Council and seniors chiefs in the Olubadan chieftaincy lines.
 
The last time a sitting Olubadan paid an official visit to the Alaafin was during the reign of Oba Yinusa Bankole Ogundipe, Arapasowu 1 in 1999, but Oba Adeyemi said the thrones of Alaafin and Olubadan have cordial relationship and several private visits had been mutually paid between the two monarchs.
 
 
In his speech, Olubadan, said the purpose of his visit was to appreciate him for personally attending his coronation on Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Mapo Hall Arcade, Ibadan and to promote unity among the Yoruba traditional rulers.
 
He promised continuous cordial relationship between the people of Ibadanland and Oyo Kingdom and said his relationship with Oba Adeyemi preceded the coronation of the latter in 1971.
 
He described Oba Adeyemi III is a man of many colours, and seized the occasion to pray for more fruitful years for the Alaafin and himself on the thrones.
 
 
Meanwhile, in his response, Oba Adeyemi enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray and work had for the resuscitation of the economy.
 
Alaafin, who recalled his relationship with Oba Adetunji for over 40 years, urged those involved in social vices such as kidnapping, vandalism and terrorism to shun the devise acts in th interest of good of the country.
 
Oba Adetunji was accompanied to Oyo by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Lekan Balogun; Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Owolabi Olakuleyin; Otun Balogun, Dr. Olufemi Olaifa; Osi Balogun, Chief Tajudeen Ajibola; Asipa Olubadan, Chief Eddy Oyewole; Ekerin Olubadan, Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ekerin Balogun, Chief Gbadamosi Adebimpe; Ekarun Olubadan, Chief Hamidu Ajibade.
 
The roll call also comprised Maye Olubadan, Chief Adebayo Akande; Agbaakin Olubadan, Oloye Lekan Alabi; Aare Alaasa of Ibadanland, Chief Lateef Oyelade; Ayingun Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Abiodun Alli; and Lagunna Olubadan, Chief Ademola Odunade.
