A taxi driver named Rabiu Usman has been arrested by the security operatives in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital after he reported suspicious movements of one of his passengers who turned out to be a suicide bomber.
The people of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital have decried the arrest of a vigilant taxi-driver, Rabi Usman who alerted the security operatives about suspicious acts of one of his passengers who ended up being a suicide bomber suspected to be working for the Boko Haram sect.
Accordingto reports from Dailypost, the driver was driving to Maiduguri with his passengers when another stopped him and boarded the cab. The smart driver noticed some strange objects which he reported at the next security checkpoint.
The bomber then detonated the bomb killing himself to evade arrest.
The driver was then held for futher interrogation.
A resident said: “it is very unfortunate that instead of commending his effort at saving lives he was arrested by the military at Sector 6 and subsequently moved to Maimalari military cantonment at about 6:00pm on Monday”.
Residents feel he is being paid with the wrong coin and their action will go a long way in discouraging other vigilant people from reporting suspicious actions in their locality
