Aketi met with famers under the auspices of “the Sunshine Coalition of Millennium Farmers” to recognize World Food Day which was yesterday, 17th of October, 2016.
He addressed salient issues regarding his plans for agriculture. Aketi emphasized that the Agro-allied industries in the state would be encouraged through improved agricultural development since the required raw materials would be readily available through their collective efforts. Ondo State is a fortunate state as it has the potential to develop within itself, agricultural industries from soil to table.
Aketi lamented the lack of focus of the current administration, noting that the fortune of farmers ought to ordinarily be encouraged with the fall in the currency value which ordinarily would have enhanced the earnings from cocoa beans now available in the market.
For Aketi, agriculture would form one of the pillars of his administration. To achieve this, emphasis on the opening of the rural areas for efficient evacuation of farm produce is vital as it also encourages our youths to engage in the farming industry.
A well oiled agricultural industry has the potential of spurring the proliferation of would be millionaires especially, in view of the fact that the price of some of the cash crops had risen of late, such as cocoa and other crops.
To Aketi, these farmers should count themselves as part of the coming government as the acquisition and disposition of their outputs shall be encouraged and appreciated.
