In what will come across as a rather weird development, a man has been caught doing something unusual with a dead tiger.
The dead tiger found in Le Van Duc’s freezer being weighed by Vietnamese authorities
Le Van Duc, a man in northern Vietnam, has been arrested by the police after he was caught red-handed stuffing a dead tiger into a freezer.
The 26-year-old was found stuffing a 37 kg tiger carcass into a freezer on Thursday.
Accoridng to the News Agency of Nigeria, skin from a different tiger was also found inside the freezer.
The suspect was being questioned by police about the tiger’s origin and where he was planning to sell the animal.
Report says trading in endangered wildlife can command a prison sentence of up to seven years.
Tigers have been driven to the brink of extinction in Vietnam, where their body parts are sold for high prices on the black market because of their supposed medicinal properties.
An unknown number of tigers are also raised in captivity at illegal breeding facilities.
CITES, the world’s largest species protection conference, has called on countries that house unaccredited tiger farms, including China, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, to close the facilities.
