A 33-year old man named Taoreed Oseni, who works as a bricklayer has been sentenced to12 years in jail for raping an 18-year old hawker at a public toilet in Lagos.
According to the Leadership, the judgement was passed by Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja yesterday, 15th of July.
Justice Ogunsanya handed down the verdict after she found Oseni guilty of one-count charge of rape brought against him by the state government.
According to the judge, the sentence, which is without an option of fine, will take effect from August 2, 2012 when the convict was arrested and detained by the police.
The prosecution team, led by the state counsel, Adebayo Haroun, had informed the court during the trial that the convict committed the offence sometime in July 2012 at a public toilet at the Mafoluku Area of Oshodi, Lagos.
