Two impostors fraudulently extorting money from unsuspecting Nigerians have been arrested and paraded by security operatives.

The culprits in question

The Enugu State Police Command, yesterday said it has arrested two suspected internet fraudsters who created a fake Facebook account using the profile of the Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, gave the names of the suspects as Richard Onyema, 36, a native of Amokohia in Imo State who resides in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and Richard Odinaka Amadi, 40, a native of Mbaitoli in Imo State who also resides in Rivers State.

He said the suspects specialised in the use of prominent persons’ profile to open Facebook accounts with a view to defrauding people.

Amaraizu disclosed that the suspects used it Mrs. Ezeilo's fake Facebook account to dupe people to the tune of N635,000, as they promised to help their victims get contract awards.

Cloning of accounts of public figures to extort money from vulnerable people has fast become the new money-making scheme by unscrupulous Nigerians.
