More details have emerged as to the reasons why the incarcerated former Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki turned down a chance to attend the burial of his late father, former Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki on Tuesday in Sokoto State.

It would be recalled that the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau told the News Agency of Nigeria about Dasuki's decline of the offer to quell rumours of President Muhammadu Buhari being highhanded about his detention.

On Tuesday, the federal government, seeking to absolve itself of any responsibility in the younger Dasuki’s absence, said it offered him an opportunity to attend the burial.

“Even when the late Sultan was in the hospital he was allowed to go and visit him but he rejected,” the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau claimed.

“He was also asked to attend his father’s burial and stay with his family for some time, the same Dasuki (Sambo) rejected,” he added.

A source close to the former National Security Adviser confirmed to Premium Times the retired army officer indeed rejected the offer to attend his father’s burial.

The source said Mr. Dasuki rejected the offer because it was planned to humiliate him.

“They were going to chain him, put him in a security vehicle with several security vans and make him appear like a criminal to his people,”
the source said.

He added that the embattled Mr. Dasuki, knowing the government’s plan, rejected the offer.

“He asked them to allow him enjoy the bail that he was granted by the courts, instead of posturing that they were doing him a favour,” the source said.
