Evicted Lagos residents in massive protest

We reported it earlier that three mobile policemen were seen setting houses ablaze in Otodo Gbame, a waterfront community in the Lekki area of Lagos on Monday.

It was gathered that the mobile policemen who were deployed to maintain peace in the area which is currently in the grip of inter-ethnic violence, were seen torching buildings owned by the Egun people, with whom the Yoruba have been at daggers drawn in the community.

The local community however exploded in violence last week when hoodlums and cultist gangs torched houses and brought in an excavator in the middle of the night to demolish houses which resulted in the eviction of many residents.

Speaking exclusively to SaharaReporters, Ahisu Celestine, leader of youths in Otodo-Gbame, said that a woman named Ajoke Adebayo, proprietress of Children International School, was the person that invited the mobile policemen to the community, adding that he was surprised to see the policemen come into the community to chase people away from their homes before setting them ablaze.

Meanwhile, the evicted residents of the community in Lekki, Lagos, was engaged in a massive peaceful protest to the state government's house in Alausa, Ikeja to meet with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in a bid to find solution to their homelessness.

The residents of the community said they have nowhere else to go and maintained that the Egun people would resist any attempt to displace them from the century-old community.
