The Afro-pop star had a horrible experience after he escaped being mobbed by some unruly young men posing as his fans in South Africa.
D'banj with South African fans
The ugly side of being a celebrity came to the fore this past weekend for DB Records boss, D'banj, as he was reportedly 'attacked' by some unruly young men posing as his fans in Durban, South Africa.
The entertainer, who won the 2015 MAMAs Evolution Award, was given a rough treatment while leaving the Durban International Convention Centre, venue of the MTV Africa Music Awards in South Africa on Saturday, 18 July, 2015.
According to Vanguard, while leaving the venue after his performance, the Nigerian pop star was accosted by some young men suspected to be Nigerians residing in South Africa.
The report said while walking down the stair case, the young men, who were communicating in Yoruba, barricaded the stairway, pretending to be his fans. But when D'banj could no longer bear it, as he was said to have reacted in an unfriendly manner, one of them poured him a glass of wine from the stair case.
Lucky for him, he was able to get away from the situation without further confrontation.
