People scampered to safety and some jumped through the window after a Young Shall Grow bus burst into flames.
The bus was burnt beyond recognition
A luxury bus from Onitsha heading to Yobe State has been burnt beyond recognition at the Akuzu end of the Awka-Onitsha expressway on Monday, December 5th. The passengers were forced to escape through the window before the fire engulfed the vehicle.
Also, the goods in the bus was burnt by the raging inferno. It is alleged the fire may have been caued by a leak from one of the gas cylinders it was conveying.
A soldier by name Nonso who witnessed the incident thanked God for his life as no life was lost.
"Thank God for saving me.young shall grow vehicle I boarded to Maiduguri got caught up with fire and burnt into ashes .I had to jump from the window to a safe place.
Thank God nobody died.#GodoverEverything, " he wrote.
Speaking on the incident, the unit commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Justin Bosah, said the situation could not be controlled because the vehicle had no fire extinguisher. He urged drivers to always carry fire extinguishers.
One of the passengers who, spoke to AbsRadio said they alerted the driver when they saw smoke emanating from the back of the vehicle but he did not take it serious.
