Buhari Breaks Silence on Controversial Rivers Re-Run Election

The first man of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has advocated for a free and fair electoral process ahead of the heated Rivers State re-run election which has been predicted to be fierce.

President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement via his official Facebook page as released around 1pm clamoured for a peaceful election devoid of malpractices and violence in Rivers State on Saturday, the 10th of December, 2016.
 
Read his full statement below:
"I urge all political parties, candidates and the people of Rivers State to please ensure that tomorrow's federal and state legislative rerun elections take place without rigging and violence. Elections should never be seen as a do-or-die affair; innocent blood should never be sacrificed on the altar of political contest for temporary power.
 
"I enjoin the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do all within its powers to give transparency and fairness to the electoral exercise in Rivers State.
 
"Let me also restate it that my administration remains committed to deepening democracy by building a legacy of respect for the wishes of the people through free, fair and credible elections."
