#RiversRerun: Police Conduct Stop-and-search Operation in Obio/Akpor

In order to forestall impending violence during the elections, Police in Rivers State have commence a stop and search operation in some local government areas.

The police in Rivers on Saturday commenced stop and search operation on vehicles plying various roads in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state to ensure peaceful the re-run legislative elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the police personnel were seen stationed at road junctions.

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Obi/Akpor Local Government, Mr Chimem Nnanta, commended the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris for adequate security arrangement made for the election.

The chairman expressed satisfaction that the election was progressing peacefully adding that so far; the exercise remained the most secured poll in recent times in the state.

Nnanta, however, noted that the turnout of electorate was low compared to previous polls.
