Lagos state has been swallowing the bitter pills of overpaying for electricity bills coupled with long period of power outages in several parts of the state.

This has led to agitations in the commercial capital of Nigeria as members of the Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) and some other groups in communities across Lagos State are protesting the planned hike in electricity tariff by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and perennial power outage.

In a statement by its Organising Secretary, Chinedu Bosah, the groups said they would be a peaceful rally at Federal High Court Ikoyi-Falomo to protest the hike and outage being imposed on them by the energy companies (Distribution and generation companies).

The group also plans to sue the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission, NERC and other power distribution companies to court against the planned electricity tariff hike.
