A politician of the Peoples' Democratic Party has been assassinated barely a week after the same tragedy rocked the All Progressives Congress in Lagos.
The spate of assasination of politicians in the country is becoming alarming just as a top official of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Mr. Olala Osondu, has been shot dead by suspected assassins.
Osondu, who was the secretary general of the PDP in Ahoada West Local Government Area, was said to have been killed at his residence, off Ada-George Road, in Port Harcourt at about 12.30a.m.
THISDAY learnt that the deceased was assassinated in front of his compound as he just returned from a meeting a few minutes after midnight.
A source, who craved anonymity , said the deceased’s wife said she heard two gunshots outside their compound after she had sighted her husband’s car.
According to the source, when the deceased’s wife came outside shortly after the gunshots, she found her husband dead.
The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, confirmed the incident and said investigations were on to track down the assassins.
