A 26-year-old civil servant from Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State has committed suicide.
A 26-year old civil servant, Daniel Haruna, who has been battling with alcohol and found it impossible to drop the habit, has committed suicide. The deceased allegedly drank a poisonous chemical substance, known as Gamali 20, popularly used to kill rodents, last Sunday.
According to a family member, Daniel who lived with his younger, brother, Musa. It was gathered that Musa was awoken from sleep by sounds of groaning and that when he saw his brother writhing in pains and vomiting, he thought he was drunk as usual and went to look for milk to stop the vomiting.
Musa could not get milk to buy because it was too late, and therefore went to sleep. He woke up the next morning to see his brother still in pain. Daniel was said to have told his younger brother to call some family members that he actually took poison to kill himself.
When the relatives gathered, he asked them to forgive him for whatever wrong he might have done them. He was taken to General Hospital, Dass, on Sunday morning where he died.
Doctors, according to a family source, said the deceased died of poisoning.
The family source said that shortly after Daniel’s death, many of his neighbours and friends started recalling some of the things he was saying.
“For instance, he was telling people that brought for food for Sallah to come and collect their plates because very soon they will not see him again and he will not be responsible for anything that happened to their plates.”
