Marriage is equality, miserable, loving, watch as 30 gay men reveal what a wedded union means to them.
In the latest installment of the 'One Word' series by Cut.com, and following the US Supreme Court's historic decision to legalize same sex marriage, a new video attempts to answer the question of what the marriage institution means by setting to quiz a group of gay men.
While 'equality' and 'love' were among the popular positive words uttered, some men referred to the institution as 'non-existent,’ ‘miserable,’ and even, 'scary'.
One young man who chose the word 'love' elaborated by saying: 'I'm kind of a hopeless romantic, so when I think of marriage I [think of] flowers, and a big wedding,'
Others featured in the clip believe that the institution is outdated, including the man who expanded his thoughts by stating that marriage is 'something people don't really think about anymore when they're in a relationship, you know? It's just a title.'
Not surprisingly, many of the comments revealed the group's complex thoughts about how this issue had the potential to affect them.
"I think about my husband. And that I feel very lucky and privileged to have had the opportunity to marry him." said another man in the video, while smiling and flashing his wedding band.
"It's a choice. But it's a choice that everyone should have." one gentleman said. "I think everyone has the equal right to be happy - or miserable," another guy joked.
