Shocker! How Lagos Bank Manager Allegedly Stole N6m From Customer's Account

A bank manager has gotten himself into more trouble than he saw coming after allegedly stealing a huge sum of money from a customer.

 
Bolaji Akanni, a former United Bank of Africa (UBA) Plc Operations Manager, has been charged to court by the police on Wednesday.
 
The Nation reports that the man was charged with stealing N6million from a customer’s bank account.
 
Akanni, 35, of No. 4, Tola Olojede Street, Meiran, Lagos, was arraigned by the Lion Building Police Division, Obalende, before Mrs. Abimbola Komolafe of an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
 
The former accounts officer is standing trial on a two- count charge of forgery, fraud and stealing, according to a charge sheet marked C/03/2017.
 
Prosecuting police officer, Insp. Abayomi Abbass, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 9, 2017 at UBA’s 12/14 Broad Street Lagos Island branch, during work hours.
 
Abbass said Akanni, with intent to defraud the bank, forged the signature of a customer, one Ogalla Chizoba, through which he stole N6m from the account.
 
The offence, he added, was punishable under Sections 363 and 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
 
Akanni denied the charges.
 
Magistrate Komolafe granted him bail in the sum of N2million, with two sureties in like sum.
 
The sureties must be managers of a reputable institution, have landed property within Lagos Island, or be gazetted resident chiefs.
 
She adjourned the case till February 14.
