A foreign exchange dealer has been reported dead while in prison custody at Kirikiri prison.

Reports say that a businessman and foreign exchange dealer, Alhaji Suleiman Yerima, locked up in prison, following an ongoing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been reported dead.

Yerima reportedly died last Friday during the end of Ramadan fast prayers on the Muslim Praying Ground at Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.

It was learned that the businessman suddenly collapsed during prayers and was subsequently rushed to the medical facility by prisons officials and the visiting imams, but was later pronounced death.

Although autopsy results are still being awaited, Yerima is suspected to have died of natural causes as preliminary examinations showed that he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, which led to his slumping during the prayers.
