The wrestling legend admitted making racist remarks several years ago and pleads for forgiveness for his indiscretion.
One of wrestling's most iconic figures, Terry Bollea better known as Hulk Hogan has pleaded for forgiveness for the racist remarks he made.
His plea for forgiveness comes on the heels of reports that he used racist slurs during a conversation about eight years ago.
He has also followed his public plea with an announcement that he is resigning from his contractual relationship with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
"Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation", Hogan tells Us Weekly. "It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise. I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs. It is not who I am. I continue to work every day to improve as a person, and this matter is an important learning experience for me in that regard. As a result I am resigning from my contractual relationship with the WWE", the 61-year-old wrestler, who made his debut in 1977 and remains one of the best-known names in the industry, said on Friday.
Hogan's lawyer, David Houston also disclosed that they are currently investigating the leaked audio and debunked widespread reports that his client was fired by WWE.
"Hulk has apologized to all of his fans", Houston said. "And we can only ask for forgiveness and understanding at this point".
