Is there a limit to how a parent can punish their child and the manner which they go about it? These and many more, are some of the questions that popped up when an Indiana dad named Gary Mills, uploaded a video of his teenage daughter to Facebook that shows her wearing a cardboard sign that read:
"My name is Abby Mills & I am a liar & a theif (sic)! I've stolen from my parents, brothers & sister. Aunts & uncles. I even stole my 9-yr-old cousin's Christmas presents".
In the video that has since gone viral, the dad, who is filming, can be heard requesting that the video be shared "so everybody in the world will know my daughter's a thief and I'm sick and tired of it!" He also calls the measure "tough love".
In addition to holding up the embarrassing sign, Abby was forced to walk up and down the street near the Wayne County Courthouse, police department, and sheriff's office where they took tours and spoke with local law enforcement officers.
Quite surprisingly, the girl holds no grudges against her dad and even admitted she understands why he took such an extreme measure, which many have condemned.
"I know I deserved it", she said. "I was embarrassed at first, but I'm glad he did it. I know I deserved it", Abby insists.
However, some people commended the dad for shaming his daughter this way.
What do you think? Was the punishment commensurate or an extreme measure?
