Akenzua II, the late Oba of Benin (traditional leader of the Edo people, in Nigeria), and one of his wives, Queen O. Akenzua, both dressed in traditional attire, standing beside a Royal Guard at Buckingham Palace, London, 12 August 1950. Queen Ohan Akenzua was the youngest of the Benin ruler’s eight wives.
Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Akenzua II (1899-1978) was the Oba of Benin from 1933 until his death, in 1978. Akenzua II ascended to the position upon the death of his father, Oba Eweka II, who reigned from 1914 and died in 1933.
