West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has threatened to seize results of hundreds of candidates who sat for the May/June examination.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has stated that no fewer than 19 states in the country owe about N4bn examination registration fees.

Mr. Charles Eguridu, the Head of WAEC National Office, made this revelation on Monday at a briefing in Lagos.

However, he failed to mention the affected states.

Eguridu said, “We have written to the affected state governments without any response. The poor response of the debtor states is threatening the smooth operations of the Council.

“We, therefore, want to publicly plead with the affected states to off-set the registration fees of their candidates as soon as possible, as we cannot guarantee that the results of their candidates for the May/June 2015 will be released along with others.”

Meanwhile the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has sued the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for setting high cut-off marks for candidates seeking admission into the institution.
