The Nigerian Army said the sporadic shooting heard around Damaturu metroplolis on Tuesday was caused by one of its soldiers.
A statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Sani Usman has revealed that the sporadic gunshots that terrified the indigenes of Damaturu, yesterday, 28th of July was perpetrated by an unruly soldier who has been reportedly arrested for gross misconduct.
The sounds of the gunshots sent wrong signals of the presence of members of the Boko Haram sect.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public and clarify that the sporadic firing heard in Damaturu this evening was a gross act of indiscipline on the part of a soldier who has already been arrested,” Usman said.
The Army has however appealed to the general public to be calm as they go about their daily activities.
