How a homeless man sets up shanty town shack made out of a crates, planks, bricks and a sheet in a busy street in London

A homeless man has set up his own shanty house made from makeshift materials on the edge of a busy London street. The man, who is yet to be identified by the authorities has used a crate, discarded bricks, planks of wood, old furniture and topped with a pink sheet to create the ramshackle home in Ilford, Essex.

The shack is joined to his car, which is being used for storage, and it even has its own flag pole and flag flying outside. The man has also attached a handwritten signed taped on to the shack begging people to leave it alone.

The sign says: "This stuff belongs to a homeless person, please don't remove. Thanking you in anticipation."

But despite the signed note, Redbridge Council and local outreach workers have no idea who the homeless man is. The shack has stunned local residents who are shocked that somebody would set up a makeshift home on the edge of a busy street.

Secretary of Ilford-based South Park Users Group, Tony Hoad, said residents were very concerned by the shack. "It shouldn’t be here - it’s a shanty shack on a main road in Ilford. It’s very worrying."
