The Embassy of Republic of Niger in Nigeria has declared that the Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN) is recognized by law.

In a reaction to the declaration of the National Universities Commission, the Embassy of Republic of Niger in Nigeria has said that the Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN) is recognised by law and “fulfils all the required terms and regulations” enforced in that country.

This was contained in a letter dated Monday, July 27, 2015 with reference number: NV.156/2015/ANN/AB/S1 from the Embassy and addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja over media reports that MAAUN degrees were not recognised in Nigeria.

he Embassy therefore enjoined the ministry to forward the letter to competent authorities in Nigeria particularly the National Universities Commission (NUC) which according to it “discredited” the institution earlier.

It condemned the stance by NUC, saying that “this sort of practice is against the excellent relationships of cooperation which exists between the two countries in the field of education.”
