Acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has been rejected for the second time by the Senate following a new discrediting report by DSS.

The Senate has yet again rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Magu was rejected after the senators voted against his confirmation.

The Department of Security Service had insisted that Ibrahim Magu, is not fit to head the anti-graft agency because he lacks integrity, a lawmaker has said. The DSS said this to the Senate in a fresh report dispatched yesterday (Tuesday, 14th March 2017) evening.

The content of the report was raised by a Senator, Dino Melaye, after it had appeared Mr. Magu would scaled the Senate hurdle, after answering a wide range of questions at his confirmation hearing still underway.

Senator Dino Melaye had cited a fresh security report from the Department of State Services (DSS).

“In the light of the foregoing, Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption stand of the current government,” the DSS report, read by Mr. Melaye, stated.

An earlier report by the DSS had earlier prevented the Senate from confirming Mr. Magu as EFCC chairman.
