The six controversial reasons why the Senate unequivocally rejected the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the EFCC has been revealed.

Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu

The Senate on Wednesday rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after he was questioned by some of the Senators for hours.

Magu who had been previously rejected by the Senate was re-nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation. He was rejected, yet again by a majority of the senators through a vote.

Here are 6 reasons why Magu was rejected by the Senate:

1. The main reason for Magu's rejection was because of the Department of State Security (DSS) earlier report indicating in strong terms that Magu failed the integrity test and was unfit for the office.

2. Senate took seriously the allegation by Magu that that two reports were submitted in one day about him by the DSS. The lawmakers didn't find it funny that Magu questioned the integrity of the security agency's report.

3. The Clerk denied claims by Magu that the Senate received two letters from the DG SSS. When asked, the clerk confirmed that he received only one letter.

4. Senators questioned and frowned at the manner the EFCC arrest and detain individuals without following due process of the laws of the land. The Senate was irked by EFCC's penchant for disobeying court orders and the many cases of human rights abuse.

5. Magu failed to appear before the Senate with his own version of the report about the DSS allegations that cleared him on the matter which made it difficult for the Senators to understand.

6. All in all, the Senate rejected and refused to confirm Magu because of his inability to get the popular votes. He was rejected by a majority of the Senators who voted against his confirmation.
