The Akwa Ibom state Police Command have thwarted an armed robbery operation during a church vigil at Ikot Ekpene Udo village, Nsit Ubium during which an arrest was made.
A group of dare-devil armed robbers reportedly stormed a Church located at Ikot Ekpene Udo village, Nsit Ubium area of Uyo on the 29th of July. The event took place as late as 3:00am during a vigil service at the Church.
A distress call was made from the Church to a nearby police station and the police patrol teams promptly responded to the dire need of the people. The police arrived at the church and met the bandits driving away the Lexus Jeep belonging to the Pastor of the church. A gun dwell ensued and one of the robbers was allegedly nabbed while others escaped.
The Pastor’s Jeep and three other vehicles were recovered at the scene. The church environment has been cordoned and search efforts are on together with local vigilante to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
The State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, is also actively involved in the ongoing investigations to weed out the miscreants.
