Despite being technically axed from Arsenal by the French tactician, Podolski has drummed support for his troubled former boss.

Lukas Podolski believes Arsenal will find it very difficult to replace Arsene Wenger if the Frenchman leaves at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old, who scored a sensational goal against England in his final game for Germany on Wednesday, now plays for Galatasaray but spent three seasons at Arsenal working under Wenger.

And he admits he is baffled by the Gunners’ recent downturn in form, which has led to increasingly loud calls for Wenger to step down from the position he has held since September 1996.
“I follow nearly every match – when not live then on social media – and I don’t know what has happened,” Podolski told Sky Sports News HQ.

“Arsene Wenger is a good guy and a good coach. He built this club from nothing to now. It will be interesting what happens in the next few months.”

When asked if he believed Wenger should stay, Podolski added, “I don’t know who the guy is that can replace him. He is Arsenal.”
