The refusal of the President to remove Acting EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu has been given as the cause of the rift betweent the executive and the legislature.

Following the Senate's recent suspension of the screening of Regional Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in protest against President Buhari’s refusal to sack Ibrahim Magu as acting Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chairman after he was rejected twice by the upper house, Senate President Bukola Saraki has denied that there is a between upper house of legislature and the Presidency.
He made the denial on his Twitter handle on Monday, April 3, saying "No rift between @NGRPresident & @NGRsenate just people exaggerating normal exec & Legislative actions. I'm in constant touch with @MBuhari."
He noted that the alleged rift between the two arms of government were exaggerated. He stated that what is going on between the two arms is not new as they are just performing their functions.
Since Acting EFCC Chairman was rejected, Senators in the upper house have expressed concern that the executive is taking them for granted. According to the Senators, the rejection of Magu should for the second time should have prevailed on the President to stop him from heading the EFCC.
