Gunmen have sent ripples of fear down the spines of Imo residents after gunning down a police officer.

A police officer in Imo State has been killed by highway gunmen, believed to be armed robbers.
This is coming after gunmen had previously attacked and killed police officers at Orie Mbieri police station, Umudagu – Mbieri and Atta in the Mbaitoli and Local Government Areas of Imo State respectively, carting away their arms and ammunition.
According to Vanguard, the name and the rank of the murdered police officer had yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
The spokesperson for the police in the state, Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the killing to our correspondent said that the incident occurred at the port Harcourt – Enugu expressway in the state.
Enwerem, who could not disclose the rank and name of the slain cop, averred that gunmen numbering about five attacked and killed the police officer on the expressway while he was driving.
The Police spokesperson said that the fleeing armed robbers also made away with the police officer’s Toyota Camry car.
He said that the manhunt for the killers had commenced, promising that the police would bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.
