President Muhammadu Buhari's fight against corruption as well as his bid to recover stolen loots seem to be yielding positive results as he has identified countries holding stolen monies and the financial institutions involved. According to the LEADERSHIP, the president made this revelation while meeting with the United States Congressmen who were in Aso Rock for visitation. The US Congressmen were led by Rep.Darrel Issa.
Buhari attibuted the progress to the support of the international community that have helped Nigeria in gathering reliable intelligence reports as well as tracing the stolen funds which are hidden in bank accounts abroad.
He stated: “We are getting cooperation from the international community, including information on ships that take crude oil from Nigeria and change direction, or pour their contents into other ships mid-stream.
“Some monies were paid to individual accounts. We are identifying the financial institutions and countries that are involved. I have been assured that when we get all our documents together, the United States and other countries will treat our case with sympathy.”
President Buhari further told the Congressmen that his administration would welcome more regular meetings of the Nigeria-United States Bi-National Commission. This, he said, was necessary because the Commission could be a more useful platform for the promotion of bilateral trade relations as well as joint cooperation in the war against terrorism.
Rep.Darrel Issa. has reiterated America's stand to support Nigeria's battle against the Boko Haram sect by providing military supports to Nigeria and also helping to uncover the theft of crude oil in the Gulf of Guinea.
