Strong rumours trending on social media reveal that some meningitis patients in the northern part of Nigeria have been abandoned in the hospital.

A Facebook user, Shanooun Sahnun shared the following photos of some children suffering from meningitis lying on the floor of Shehu Shagari Hospital in Zamfara State.
According to the agitated northerner, the meningitis patients are currently being exposed to what could qualify as the worst medical treatment in the world. Sahnum also lambasted the governor of the state, Abdul Aziz Yari Abubakar who attributed the recent outbreak of the disease to the 'wrath of God' on sinners.
Pictures of infected kids freely lying on the floor of the hospital without professional attention have surfaced on social media amid dismay of commenters.
Mr. Sahnun wrote: "This is Shehu Shagari General Hospital, Gusau Zamfara State, following pictures are for young children infected with meningitis disease in Hospital, please look at the way Abdul Aziz Yari Abubakar decided to put his state and claims that the disease was punishment from God; can this man has pity on his people? Can he care about children? Can he allow his children to be treated such way? If you asked they will say they are waiting for Federal Government to intervene after all they grant, bailout, Paris loan refund."
