The special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)Enugu have nabbed a five-man gang of criminals that have troubled the state for a long time.
The arrested robbers
A 5-man gang of notorious robbers in Enugu specializing in the hijacking of lorries along the expressway have been nabbed by the operatives of the special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state.
According to a statement by the representative of the Enugu State Police Command, the hoodlums specialize in seizing the lorries and their goods which they take to strategic marketing spots for total sales.
The suspects who met their waterloo were nabbed recently at 9th Mile, Onitsha expressway as they were about to hijack a lorry loaded with goods. Unknown to them that intelligence have been gathered about them and that they are being monitored.
The suspects associated with the crime are:
i. Nwabueze Ogbonna a native of Izza in Abakiliki but resides in Aba,
ii. Solomon Okafor a native of Umulokpa, Uzouwani but resides at Okpanam Delta state,
iii. Igwenagu Ezenwa a native of Okpuno village Nsude and also living at Nsude,
iv. Obiora Nebe a native of Inyi Oji River but residing at 9th Mile Enugu state and
v. Fidelis Ozofor of Owa imezi Ezeagu also living at Owa Imezi Ezeagu
According to the police, useful confessional statements have been made by the suspected armed robbers who operate across Delta, Abia and Enugu state. They have successfully exploited the expertise of a former lorry driver among them known Solomon Okafor who was in charge of the driving of hijacked trucks.
They transport the merchadise to places as far as Kano or others to sell after successfully tying up the occupants of the vehicle at gun point.
They are currently being prepared for prosecution at the court of law.
