A couple has reportedly been eaten up by their own dogs after their bodies lay dead for as long as two days.

The incident occurred at this apartment

A Spanish couple were eaten by their hungry pet dogs after their bodies lay undiscovered for two months, Daily Star UK reports.

The pair’s daughter alerted police who made the horrific discovery after calling round their country home in the Majorcan town of Llucmajor to check on them but finding the entrance locked.

The male pensioner, a 73-year-old known only as Andreu, died from natural causes caused by a heart problem and his Alzheimer sufferer wife Joana, 70, starved to death after being unable to look after herself.

Two of their pet dogs were also found dead but another four, including a Labrador, were saved and removed from the couple’s rundown home by the authorities.

Andreu’s body is said to have been almost totally devoured by the hungry animals, with local reports saying half of his corpse was missing.

His wife’s body also had bite marks on her although she had been mostly left alone.

Neighbours admitted today they had noticed a strange smell coming from the property for the last two months - but insisted they never imagined it was because the hermit couple had died.

One said: “The dogs aren’t dangerous. The labrador was called Reina and used to sleep at our place quite often.”

Today it emerged Andreu had rejected offers of help from local social services, who last visited them on February 17.

Their last contact with their daughter had been around Christmas.

Police were called to the property days after they are thought to have died when a neighbour claimed one of their dogs had attacked his hens, but after finding the front gate locked made no attempt to gain access.

Local councillor Fina Santiago, responsible for social services, said: “If a person says they can take care of another that suffers Alzheimer’s, we cannot go against their wishes.”
