Foremost Nigerian Literary Scholar, Professor Francis Abiola Irele is Dead

 

Nigerian academic, Francis Abiola Irele, best known as the Doyen of Africanist literary scholars worldwide, is dead.

 

The death of the academic and foremost literary scholar, was confirmed by relation of the don exclusively to Premium Times.

 

Born in 1936, Mr. Irele graduated from Ibadan University in 1960. He completed a Ph.D in French at the University of Paris, Sorbonne in 1966 and held teaching positions at the University of Ghana, Obafemi Awolowo University, and University of Ibadan.
