Embattled Senator Dino Melaye failed on Thursday July 6 in his bid to stop the ongoing recall process by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Nation reports that Justice John Tsoho in an ex-parte ruling rejected Melaye’s motion for a temporary injunction restraining INEC from proceeding with the recall process until the determination of suit challenging his recall.

It was gathered that instead, the judge ordered parties in the case to “maintain status quo pending the hearing of the motion on notice.”

The court resumes hearing of the case on the 29th of september 2017.

This according to political analysts will put INEC in a close shave as the constitution stipulates the body has 90 days to initiate the recall process as advocated for by over 50% of his constituents.

Mr. Melaye, an All Progressives Congress chieftain has accused his party counterpart, governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi of being the brain behind his recall process which is set to be the first in Nigeria.
