Ten thousand members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the five central senatorial axis on Sunday in Okene have reportedly decamped to the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Kogi State.

The PDP decampees are from Okene, Ajaokuta, Adavi, Okehi and Ogorimagongo local government areas. The former PDP members, who where assured of transparency and equal treatment in their new party expressed optimism that the party would reposition the state for growth and development.

A former PDP Chairman, Okehi Local Government Area, Honourable Siaka Musa, who led a sizeable number of the party supporters into the APC explained that the decision to defect to the ruling party was informed by the desire to key into the viable New Direction Agenda of the present administration.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye has described the said defection of some PDP members in the central part of the State to the APC as a fraud orchestrated by the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

He accused the governor spending N500 million to divert the attention of the public.

“This Yahaya Bello and 419 propaganda in Okene today. Spent 500million naira to divert attention. Rented crowd without party structure. Shame as our common patrimony is been wasted as our civil servants and pensioners die of hunger. God is not sleeping,” Dino Melaye stated.
