JP Nadeau, a father of the bride had a lucky escape after being struck by lightning during his daughter's wedding in Canada.

According to The Telegraph, JP Nadeau, who says he has experienced a number of brushes with death in his life, was reportedly in the middle of a speech in his apple orchard in New Brunswick when the bolt hit the festivities.

"And just as I told my new son-in-law 'You're a lucky guy' - Boom!" he told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Mr Nadeau said he was left with a small scar on his thumb after the July 8 incident, which shocked the wedding guests.

"I had the microphone and the shock jumped into the sound system and my hand just lit up and I saw the spark," he told the CBC.

"And I'm looking at my hand and it's all flared up… It was like I was holding a lightning bolt in my hand, it was amazing."

Mr Nadeau's wife, Maggy Thomas, said it didn't stop the "beautiful wedding" from going ahead. "But that was pretty terrifying for a second," she told the CBC.
It isn't the first time Mr Nadeau is thankful for being alive.

In 2015, he was rescued by the British RAF after a cruise ship he was working on near the Falkland Islands caught fire.

"I've had lots of brushes with death," Mr Nadeau said. "But death keeps ignoring me."
