An onlooker who notified H-Metro said he spotted Mbavarira mixing the broken bottles with roasted corn (maputi) and suspected it was a suicide attempt. Emmerson is also believed to be suffering from hernia and he does not have anyone to look after him.

“I spotted him eating broken bottles mixing them with maputi before he came to me in search of a pen which he said he wanted to swallow so that he can die instantly. Emmerson also highlighted that his family members were ignoring him at a critical time he is suffering from hernia which greatly needs special attention. He also said he came to Harare in search of his brother Stephen Mbavarira, who works at Zesa Holdings in Harare so that he can be assisted with medication but his brother is ignoring him. At first we assumed that he is mentally ill, but to our surprise he was talking sense, revealing things as they are,” said one of the eye-witnesses.

When H-Metro left him, he was in the hands of the police at ZRP First Street police post.
