A SaharaReporters report has shown that armed mobile policemen have taken over the premises of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Abuja following the discovery of a plan by the suspended Executive Secretary, Yusuf Usman, to forcibly resume duties there using a rented crowd to protest his unceremonious removal.

A detachment of gun-toting policemen and Civil Defence Corps officers was today stationed at strategic locations in the building while staff were subjected to security checks.

The embattled Executive Secretary was reported to have threatened to storm the office with the protesters and loyalists, towards unseating the Acting Executive Secretary, who assumed the position this morning.

It was gathered that both junior and senior staff of the organization planned a showdown if Mr. Usman showed up as alleged.

Mr. Usman last week defied the suspension order of the Minister of Health who directed him to hand over to the most senior officer and proceed on three months suspension over his alleged involvement in a N960m scam.

Mr. Usman argued that he could only be removed from office by the President under the circumstances specified in the NHIS Act, asserting that his appointment is for a period of five years.
