Kenyan Police in Kangundo are currently looking for a 25-year-old man suspected of hacking his father to death after a dispute over a motorcycle.

According to SDE, the young man is said to have attacked 50-year-old Boniface Nzioki as he slept in his house in Kanzokea village around 10.30pm on Monday, then fled.

Kangundo OCPD Samuel Anampiu said Nzioki’s wife, 44-year-old Rosemary Syokau, said she saw their son leave the bedroom she shared with her husband carrying a bloody axe. When she went in she found her husband lying in a pool of blood.

“She went into the bedroom and found her husband writhing in pain and bleeding from two deep cuts on the face.
"Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries and his body was taken to the Kangundo Level 4 hospital mortuary,” he said.

He said preliminary investigations had shown that the man was annoyed because his father had banned him from using a family motorcycle. Nzioki is said to have accused his son of misusing the bike.

The victim’s older brother, Sylvester Matheka, said he received news of Nzioki’s killing from his nephew.

“I was woken up at 11 pm by my nephew, who told me about the incident. When I arrived at his home, about 800 meters away, I found neighbours. They told me my brother was dead and his body had been taken away by police,” Matheka said.

The area chief, Alex Musembi, said one of the suspect’s siblings had earlier been charged before a Kangundo court with assaulting his father.

Elsewhere, a 30-year-old man was yesterday charged with two counts of propagating hate speech through his Facebook account.

Paul Kipng’etich Kimutai alias Gen. Kimutai PK allegedly posted messages enhancing ethnic contempt and likely to ignite hatred between communities living in Uasin Gishu on June 18 and June 25. He denied the charges and was released on a Sh50, 000 bond with an alternative of a Sh30, 000 cash bail.
