Commotion as 70 Children Are Stranded on a Mountain With Hypothermia and Leg Injuries (Photos)

Several children have been left stranded on a mountain, causing a frantic rescue efforts as army cadets get into difficulties during camping.

According to a Metro UK report, a major incident has been declared on a mountain range after dozens of Army cadets got into difficulties on a camping trip.
 
Emergency services were called after a group of 73 people – 10 adults and 63 children – were hit by treacherous weather conditions.
 
In total, 17 children, who are aged between 12 and 17-years-old, had to be stretchered off the mountain.
 
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service revealed 16 of the group were suffering from hypothermia.
 
 
Coastguard, paramedics and helicopter crews are currently on the scene in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland.
 
The Coastguard said on Facebook that they were called after as many as 70 people got into difficulty.
 
It said that the PSNI and ambulance service received ‘several reports that a large number of people were in difficulty after being caught out in inclement weather’.
 
A spokesman said: ”Currently have three Coastguard Rescue Heicopters, three Coastguard Rescue Teams, Moutain Rescue, Police and Ambulance in attendance for up to 70 persons in difficulty in the Mourne Moutains.’

Speaking to the BBC, Ken Johnston, chief press officer with the Ministry of Defence, Northern Ireland, said: ‘This morning they were in the Mourne Mountains when that atrocious weather swept in.
 
‘A decision was taken to withdraw as the weather and rain, wind continued.
 
‘We are assessing the children, but we understand it is fairly minor injuries, ankle injuries and some cold injuries.’
 
Colin McGrath, a Social Democratic and Labour party MLA, tweeted: ‘Major emergency incident in the Mournes with helicopter, coastguard, medical and ambulance responding.
 
‘Please God all will be OK.’
