Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered the flogging of a 32-year-old Nuhu Ahmed for an attempted theft.

The convict, who admitted committing the offence, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying he was misguided by his friends.

The judge, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, ordered that Ahmed be given six strokes of the cane, after finding him guilty of the charge.

Sadiq, who warned the convict to desist from committing crime in future, added that the court might not be this lenient the next time he appears before him.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that the accused, a car washer, who resides at Garki area of FCT, was arraigned on a count of attempted theft.

She alleged that the accused attempted to steal a battery from the complainant, one Lola Ogunsola’s Honda Civic car at Utako Market.

The prosecutor told the court that the complainant, who resides at Gwarimpa in Abuja, reported the case at the Utako Police Station.

She said the offence contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.
